Stanley Paul Dixon
March 20, 1957- April 8, 2025
Stanley "Paul" Dixon, 68, of Yuma, AZ, passed away on April 8, 2025 after a long battle with prostate cancer. His mother and three children were surrounding him in his final few days in his family's home in Cedaredge, Colorado.
The son of Harold Dean Dixon and Sue (Harvey) Dixon, Paul graduated from Vista High School in Vista, CA in 1975 and moved to Yuma, AZ shortly thereafter with his wife-to-be following not long after. Paul's three children, Jennifer, Jessica, and Jonathan were all born in Yuma as well. Paul then continued his education at Arizona Western College (AWC) with the goal of becoming a firefighter/ paramedic. He completed his EMT, IEMT, and Paramedic certifications during this time. Paul began his career as a firefighter/EMT with Rural Metro Fire Department, but his end goal was always to work for the City of Yuma Fire Department (YFD). Paul met this goal and was with YFD from July 1989- December 2010 as a Firefighter/ Paramedic and proudly referred to himself as Rsqdoc. Throughout the years , Paul worked for AWC as an instructor for other aspiring firefighters and EMS students, taught CPR for American Heart Association, and picked up additional 24 hour shift at Tri Valley Ambulance in Wellton.
Paul had many other passions in life, including riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle (which was an upgrade from the many years he rode a unicycle with his kids on his shoulders) and golfing with friends and family. He enjoyed the outdoors, after growing up at the beach, and loved camping trips and fishing with his kids and friends. He continued many of these activities into retirement. Our family appreciates all of the stories we have heard from his friends and colleagues, and it definitely sounds like he was always up for some fun!
Paul is survived by his mother, Sue Dixon; his children: Jennifer Dixon-Steakley (Nigel), Jessica McLaren (Jason), Jonathan Paul Dixon (Shelby) and his grandchildren Aidan, Addison and Ashton McLaren. He is preceded in death by his father Harold Dean Dixon, his brother Earl Dean Dixon and his late wife, Lynn Hooker.
Services will be held, as requested by Paul, in Yuma at Desert Valley Mortuary. We are delaying this until after the Yuma Summer. Please join us October 4th, 2025 at 10am for a celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Hospice of Yuma in Paul's name .
