Ramon R.
Gomez
May 24, 1946 — Jan 23, 2021
Yuma
Ramon Rojo Gomez, a husband, father, grandfather, master tradesman and friend passed away peacefully on January 23, 2021 in Yuma, AZ surrounded by his loving wife, children, grandchildren and extended family.
Born May 24 in Jalisco, Mexico to Don Carlos Gomez and Dona Maria Rojo, Ramon pledged vows to his bride and life partner, Guillermina Rodriguez Gomez in November 1969. Following the birth of their two daughters; Alejandrina and Laura Gomez; and loss of their son; Angel Gomez; Ramon and his growing family migrated to the United States.
Once a young cadet at the Heroico Colegio Militar, in Mexico's capital, Ramon loved his native and adopted countries all the same. He felt deep pride and appreciation for his two grandsons serving in the U.S. Army and for all veterans, especially those in his circle of family and friends. Ramon effectively navigated his natural and adopted nationalities and was studying for his U.S. Citizenship exam at the time of his illness.
Ramon was a practical, charismatic and loving partner, parent and grandfather who enjoyed exploring the world with his friends, grandchildren and family. He loved the sound of his wife's singing and he also loved camping, fishing, baja races, soccer, football, gardening, and making his famous chili.
Ramon had a witty sense of humor and loved animals; he was a wonderful dog-dad and doting dog-grandfather. His inquisitive independent nature made him a natural traveler and he had his dream RV to prove it.
Ramon also enjoyed spending quiet time alone and was deeply intellectual; through these qualities he was very supportive of all his children. Not one to lecture, he possessed common sense about things and would spontaneously share wisdom and practical advice when he saw his children or grandchildren struggling.
As a master craftsman and journeyman, Ramon helped to lead the design and prototype of mechanical harvesters. He also mentored apprentices and was passionate about his trade. He enjoyed problem solving, and valued accuracy, precision and genuine quality. He continued developing his skills and was a life-long learner. Ramon constantly sought faster ways to get things done, always seeking to uncover more unique and efficient ways to solve problems. He met many lifelong friends though his work at Spreckles Sugar, Dole and Desert Premium Farms.
As the family patriarch, Ramon will be deeply missed. A lifelong Catholic, he was a man of deep faith and convictions. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, 4 brothers, three sisters, a son and grand daughter Macy Agatrap. He is survived by his wife, Guillermina Gomez. Six children and their spouses and life partners, seventeen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, doggy-grandchildren, a brother, two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
"Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die,""(John 11:25 NIV)
