Obituary

Patricia "Patty" J. Flesher Lorenz, 62, beloved Mother and Grandmother, went to heaven on April 24, 2025. She was born in St. George, Utah on March 17, 1963, to Robert Flesher and Dorothy Varela Basquez.

Patricia, also known as Patty, grew up both in Yuma, Arizona and San Luis Rio Colorado, Mexico. As a young child, she faced many challenges which taught her to be strong, independent and that is when she gained the spirit of a "fighter"-overcoming any obstacle.

As a daughter and sibling, she was protective. When her siblings were bullied in school, she would stand up for them. When her bonus mom had a terrible accident, she helped care for her. When someone needed help, she would offer a helping hand. Patty was selfless and worked hard at caring for others.

Patty had a strong work ethic that was to be admired. She was very responsible and liked to be on time, which meant she was always early, way too early! She worked in the family produce business for most of her years but later went on to pursue her dream of becoming a corrections officer. She was a great officer and wore her badge very proudly. Patty loved this career but unfortunately, it was cut short due her having a major stroke. As a survivor, she did not let this stroke stop her from remaining independent and strong. She was so strong that despite her disability, she was able to care for her father for the last months of his life until his death. This was her honor to love and care for her father.

Patty was a proud mother of five daughters and grandma of eight grandchildren. She would often say "I love my kids and grandkids so much." As a mom, Patty was loving but also firm as she wanted the best in life for each child. She was also thoughtful and would make sure that holidays, birthdays and events were special and memorable. As a grandma, she was gentle, sweet, encouraging and loved to spoil the grandkids. They were her heart, happiness and joy. Each of the kids and grandkids were close with Patty as she showed them all unconditional love and support. Her family will always remember her and carry on her legacy.

Patty enjoyed watching crime tv, she loved animals, funny movies and videos but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was quite funny and would make everyone laugh. She had many funny sayings that make everyone smile and her family continues to use those sayings. Patty was enjoyable to be around and will be deeply missed.

Patty is survived by her daughters Yolanda (Lee) Escalanti, Krystle (Andrew) Rosales, Shelly (Karl) Hopps, Erica (Amber) Benk-Gutierrez, Linda Benk; Grandchildren Alexis Altamirano, Aylan Rosales, Mariah Escalanti, Aram Rosales, Ashlyn Hopps, Weston Hopps, Cameron Hopps, and Kaden Gutierrez; ex-husband but friend Ernie Benk; Best friend Waymon Miller; Many siblings, nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Robert Flesher and Dorothy Varela Basquez, bonus mother Guillermina Flesher, spouse Victor Lorenz; Brothers Theodore Flesher, Billy Flesher, Manuel Valles, Avelardo Valles, Richard Valles; Sisters June Flesher, Yolanda Flesher, Dolores Flesher and Rosalinda Flesher.

Patty will always be remembered for being a beloved mom and grandma, hard working woman, strong, independent, funny, resilient, loving, kind, helpful, and a fighter who was determined until the end.

Mom, we are so proud of you, our "fighter." You fought hard and finished the race. We will live each day to make you proud. We will love and help each other just as you wanted. We will be strong just like you showed us. We will kiss the grandkids for you each day. We will miss you so deeply and love you forever and always!
