Obituary

Ofelia Figueroa-Perez, 60, of Yuma passed away on September 12, 2022 in a tragic accident while on vacation in Ouray, CO. Born on October 16, 1961 in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico to Francisco and Rosaura Figueroa. Ofelia immigrated into the United States at the age of 1. She later went on to become a US citizen, which was a very proud moment for her.

Ofelia grew up in Bard, CA and graduated from San Pasqual High School in Winterhaven, CA in 1980. Then, she attended Arizona Western College and earned her degree in Nursing.

Ofelia was married to Mr. Perez and they resided in Yuma, where Ofelia loved their ranch house.

During her nursing career, Ofelia worked in Florida, as well as Flagstaff, AZ. Currently she worked at Yuma Regional Medical Center Outpatient Surgery Department, where she loved to work and was always trying to make a difference as nurses in her department said "….Ofelia had a unique gift of filling a room full of joy and happiness. She lifted our spirits through her childlike innocent happiness. She started off every single day with a bright smile and either a good morning or good day and good cheer to every single employee that came across her. She had a vibrant and energetic personality that was contagious. She made us laugh with her silly personality when she told us stories of her adventures and mishaps. She had a one-of-a-kind eccentric style from her headbands, braids to her festive jewelry.

We will miss the excitement she had when she was truly happy about something. She was a very caring nurse with her patients. Nursing was her passion and in her words the work God performed through her. She always carried a strong faith in God in every task she did. She ended every day with a God bless you. She took the time to help coworkers in need no matter how busy she was. She took the time to get to know everyone and asked how our children and families were doing. She truly was the most selfless human being. She is family to us all. There will never be anyone like her"….."She taught me so much about nursing. I would not be as good as I am without her help".

Ofelia was an RN for almost 40 years.

She was a Devout Catholic and attended St Thomas Yuma Indian Mission Church in Winterhaven, CA, where she belonged to the church singing group and was a former catechist. Ofelia was adventurous and loved to travel with friends and family, but most importantly, she loved to spend time with her family particularly with her mother.  Ofelia was very energetic and always enjoyed dancing with her husband Juan. One great memory to share is that she loved to entertain and always opened her home on Orange Avenue in Downtown Yuma to everyone for the Christmas parade.

Ofelia is survived by her husband Juan Perez, her mother Rosaura Figueroa, her brother Ignacio (Diana) Figueroa and her sister Alma (Jaime) Cadena all of Yuma. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Yessenia (Jonathan) Atwood and Franky (Brittania) Figueroa of Phoenix, AZ. Daniel (Brittany) Linares and Andrea (Carlos) Macias of Yuma. She is survived by numerous uncles, aunts and many cousins which she loved very much. She leaves behind Chuyita Estrada and Family that loved her and will miss her very much as well as her YRMC friends that were her second family.

Ofelia is preceded in death by her father, Francisco Figueroa. Her paternal grandparents, Ignacio and Mariana Figueroa and her maternal grandparents, Manuel and Dolores Cordova. Many uncles, aunts and cousins.
