Obituary

Nick passed away peacefully at his home in Yuma, Arizona on August 31, 2020.

He fought a long and hard battle with cancer. I am proud to say he looked death in the face with the eyes and soul of a true Marine.

Nick was a quiet man. If you were a loved one or friend you certainly knew it and if he did not like you well you pretty much knew that as well.

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps at the age of 17, where he proudly served his country for 20 yrs. He retired from the Marine Corps in 1990 at MCAS Yuma, AZ.   He then went on to work at Yuma Proving Grounds, in Yuma,AZ  for another 23 yrs as a Data Collector.

He is survived by his wife Debra Gwaltney, daughters Angela Gwaltney Hale of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Julie Gwaltney of Emporia, VA. A sister and brother-in law Sandy and Greg Sizemore of  Buffalo Junction, VA.. Brothers Paul Gwaltney Spring, TX Tony Seamans of NC and Jeff Gwaltney of VA. Step daughter's Jamie-lyn Hinton and Julie McAvoy of Altoona, IA and all their family's.

He was a beloved son of Eleanor and Nicholas Gwaltney III, a brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and cousin. He loved his family dearly through the years, even when the miles of separation were far apart.

God let me have him for 15 yrs and for that I am forever grateful.

God has taken him home now to be with him and our loved one's, but he will forever be in our thoughts and hearts.
