Obituary

Maria del Socorro Muñoz De Aguirre of Somerton, Arizona, beloved wife, mother, grandmother (great & great-great), sister, aunt, mother-in-law, and friend passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 2, 2023. Socorro was born to Micaela Jauregui and Rosario Muñoz on July 23, 1927 in La Magdalena, Zacatecas, Mexico. In 1949, Micaela, Rosario, and their daughter Socorro moved with the rest of their extended family from Rio Verde, Jalisco to Nochistlán, Zacatecas. The following year, in 1950, Socorro met and married Manuel in Nochistlán, Zacatecas. In 1957, Socorro and Manuel moved to San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico. In 1968, Socorro, Manuel, and their family moved to Somerton, Arizona. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her primary vocation was to take care of her family, always giving stability, love, guidance, and unconditional support to each and every family member. She carried out this vocation by sharing her wisdom through storytelling, with her love of cooking, and most of all, by the example she set for her family. She would welcome everyone to her home with an open heart and open arms. She would always ask anyone who entered her home "ya comistes?". Socorro's faith in God, devotion to her family and community, love for cooking, and veneration for the Virgin de Guadalupe set a powerful example that continues through her children and many descendants. Her life-long commitment to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church showed through her famous champurrado, which she graciously donated every year or over many years for El Día de la Virgin church fundraising efforts. She also volunteered her time by cooking for the local clergy and hosted traveling nuns in her home. She was thankful to God for providing her with a long and abundant life. She taught that through faith, anything can be achieved, and that God was the source of all her strength. Socorro was preceded in death by her husband Manuel Aguirre; brother Guadalupe Muñoz, brother Joel Muñoz, brother Salvador Muñoz, brother Fausto Muñoz, sister Ramona Muñoz, sister Maria Muñoz, son Elias Aguirre, son, Jose Oriel Aguirre, son Manuel Aguirre, son Efrain Aguirre, daughter Ramona Sanchez.
