Geraldine Janet
Gillham
May 19, 1935 — Mar 14, 2019
Yuma
Hello
I was 17 and had been studying music and taking voice lessons and finally was accepted to sing Chorus and bit parts with the South bay Light Opera association. We were doing a musical version of the a Tale of two Cities titled "The New Moon" when I first saw her, I was immediately in love. Standing on stage, an audience of 5000 patrons were being shown their seats but I could see only one, my future wife, Geraldine, acting as usher, then she disappeared into the crowd and I had no way of finding her. Some time later I saw her again, this time at a young peoples social event with the Redondo Beach First Baptist Church. It was if I had known her for 100 years, we were inseparable for a year then married on October 30, 1953, a union that lasted more than 65 years.
I hardly noticed the graying but came the time she could no longer pass the driving examination and we were forced to conclude her driving days were over. Inexplicably the California DMV refused my renewal application as well. we were rural, more than 20 miles from the grocery store and medical care and a 4 mile drive to the mail box, we were forced to relocate.
