Doris A Pfeifer - February 11, 1930 - July 22, 2023
Doris was born on February 11, 1930 to Henry and Bessie Williams in Gaston, NC and passed
away peacefully in her sleep on July 22, 2023 in Yuma, AZ, at 93 years old. Doris was the
youngest of two daughters raised in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Her sister, Beaulah "Pat" and
Doris, as young girls, would spend time hitting alligators on the heads with sticks and their teen
years shagging on the boardwalk.
The two loved to travel between South Carolina and Arizona multiple times a year - driving the
distance each way. They loved crafts, swap meets, a good poker game, bingo and a casino.
The two traveled well until their 80's when they were no longer able to do so safely.
Doris was in Food Service Management managing the NCO Clubs on Marine Bases - her
favorite memory - Hosting the Commandant of the Marine Corps in Quantico, VA.
Also a favorite story - stationed in Hawaii - she hung up on Elvis Presley when he called for a
meet and greet with her daughter thinking it was a joke. He called back and said, no ma'am, it's
me, Elvis.
Upon relocation to Yuma, AZ in 1981, Doris joined multiple bowling leagues and the Yuma
Jaycees where she served one year as First Vice for the Silver Spur Rodeo and many years as
Ticket Chairman.
Mom loved bingo, casino, NASCAR, baseball, livestock shows and was proud of her children
and grandchildren/great grandchildren.
Doris was proceeded in death by her parents and sister.
Doris is survived by her four daughters, Barbara Ruminer, Donna Meade, JoAnn (Ronnie)
Dalton, Carla (Dean) Wolfe, five grandsons, Preston (Krista) Meade, Brandon (Crystal) Olheiser,
Mike (Tina) Chidster, Alex (Jasmine) Gunnells, Chance (Alexis) Sharp, one granddaughter,
Jaisyn Wolfe and 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by close friend for the last few
years, Berta.
Mom was feisty, strong and independent and lived a wonderful adventure filled 93 years. Your
wings were ready, our hearts were not. You will be loved and missed always. Rest in Paradise,
Mama.
At mom's request, there will be no services.
