Obituary

Darrell O Williams 85, of Yuma AZ, passed away on the morning of January 28, 2025, after a long, beautiful fulfilling life.

Darrell was born on September 05, 1939, in Locust Grove, Oklahoma to Jack & Norean Willams and was an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. He had an older brother, Junior, and a younger brother, Dale.

Darrell attended and graduated from Locust Grove High School in 1957. After graduation, he joined the US Army and during his service he had a tour in Germany. At the conclusion of his military service, Darrell returned to Oklahoma and met and married the love of his life Carolyn Ann in 1965. They were married for 59 years. While married, they had two children, Sherrie and Darren. Darrell was an entrepreneur at heart and worked on various business ventures throughout his life, but his most successful was the insurance agency he established in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma working as an agent for Farmers Insurance.

Broken Arrow was where Darrell and Carolyn laid down their roots to raise their kids and live for over 30 years in a home Darrell helped build on a family plot of land. During these years, Darrell worked tirelessly at his job and at home to make a wonderful life for his family. He installed a swimming pool and added a sunroom to the house on his own and regularly took the family on vacations and weekend getaways to cabins at Lake Hudson and Branson, Missouri. Darrell also loved trying out new technology. He was one of the first in Broken Arrow to install a 20-foot satellite dish, so his family could watch tv from around the world despite not having much regular tv reception in the area. He was also one of the first to latch on to the Atari video game craze and take calls on the go with a portable bag phone. Carolyn never knew what Darrell was going to try next!

Darrell enjoyed spending holidays and family gatherings with his brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Darrell also enjoyed spending time with his brother Dale, nephew Brett and niece Heather and their families. He loved going to hunt camp with his brother and nephew on the weekends or having a BBQ around the pool with them.

In 2004, Darrell retired and spent his time traveling Europe and the US. He loved being with his kids and grandkids in Idaho going fishing, shooting, and exploring the mountains with them and watching them play sports. In recent years, he lived in Arizona where he enjoyed golfing, riding jeeps in the desert, smoking ribs, making silver jewelry, laughing with friends, happy hours and of course watching the Dallas Cowboys.

Darrell possessed a magnetic personality, a disarming and wide smile, and a deep rich laugh that people loved to be around. He loved to give people nicknames that were affectionate and heartwarming. His daughter (Petunia) and son (Boze) and grandchildren can attest to that! Darrell could always be counted on to help in a time of need, go on an adventure, or just sit outside and enjoy nature or talk about life with anyone.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Noreen and his brother Junior.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn and his children: Sherrie (Dave) Aulbach and Darren (Jamie), his grandchildren: Kayla (Patrick) Franklin, Dylan Gordon, Joshua Gordon and Noah Williams.

He had two precious Great-Grandsons, Quentyn and Reece. Brother Dale and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thank you to all his friends in the Sun Vista community and the Sun Vista Golf Buddies who have been an important part of his and Carolyn's lives these past 20 years. The friendship and community of Sun Vista is unmatched and much appreciated.

We would also like to thank Stacey and Veronica, his home health care providers, Chaplain Juan and Southwestern Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests people look to do a good deed or favor for a friend or stranger while wearing a big smile and sharing a good laugh.
