Hello and Welcome friends and family,
We know this these are difficult and trying times that we're in and we just want to take a minute to say thank you to everyone who has been there for us. Another enormous thank you to the people who have donated in helping us with funeral expenses, we are so grateful to you. My father's death has not been easy on us, on any of us.
Danny Lopez was the best father/husband anyone can ask for, an awesome tio and the toughest grandfather. The thing that made our dad special was that he wasn't only our dad, he was everyone's dad. Even his grandchildren called him dad sometimes. If there was anyone that could cheer him up and give him the biggest smile it was his grandchildren. During the last few years of his life it became harder and harder to make him smile and look on the positive side of things, one thing we could always count on was his grandchildren to make him smile from ear to ear.
Our father has suffered through so much the last few years with endless doctor's visits, sleepless hospital stays and amputation after amputation. When COVID-19 emerged onto all of us, our primary concern was of course our dad. Everyone in the household tried to stay clean so we can prevent our dad from contracting the virus, given he had multiple underlying health conditions. Despite all the times we've had to take him to the ER, we were never prepared to lose him. We always counted on how much strength he had and all the times he has been hospitalized, he always came home to us. The last time he was at St. Joseph's, he told us he was taken to get tested for COVID. We were all so scared because we knew that out of the fights he has fought in the past few years, this one would be a hard one. Especially because no one was allowed in to see him. With all of his hospital stays, everyone of his kids and grand kids always went to visit him. That alone gave him so much strength to keep fighting. The next day he was tested for the virus, things escalated very quickly. The next day no one was able to talk with him on the phone because he was having trouble breathing and his lungs were giving up. The day after that he was intubated and having a machine breath for him. He was then in a medically induced coma to try and give his body what it needs to get better. Two days later he was completely dependent off of machines breathing for him and staying alive. On may 13, doctors told us that he is hanging in there but given his condition he may not make it the next day. May 14 th , at 3:30 AM he was gone. Luckily we were able to be in the same room with him during his last moments and he knew that he wasn't there alone. As much as we wanted to believe he would make it out of this and come home to us, sadly we all knew what God had planned for him. We all kept thinking it was okay for him to move on, we knew how tired he was and his struggles on an everyday basis.
We are trying our best to confide in the fact that he is no longer suffering and he is finally at peace. However it is extremely difficult to cope with the feeling that we will no longer see him, hear the sound of his voice or hear his laugh that was so contagious. No matter how much pain he was in, he tried so hard to keep it together and not let anyone see what he was feeling. To all us in this room today, he was the strongest man we know. Our dad was unique in so many different ways. Because of him we are a huge marvel family, we have softball Sundays, we eat fideo with melted cheese, we appreciate a good burger and we all have his strength. We hope we can keep his traditions alive in his honor for the future generations of this family.
Dad if you are with us and listening to us, please know that we love you very very much and you will forever live inside us.
