Charles Vernon O'Neill
June 4, 1933 – February 26, 2026
Charles Vernon O'Neill was the first-born son of Vernon and Vera O'Neill. He was born in Medford, Massachusetts, and grew up alongside his siblings: Lillian (Midge) Fields, Robert O'Neill, both of whom have passed, and Karen Tordoff.
In 1952, Charles married Martha Louise Harrington. Together, they raised five children: Clifford, Barry, Loree, Daniel, and Brad, who is now deceased. Martha passed away in June 2009. Charles was blessed with a large family, having eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Charles worked as a Pipe Coverer worker, applying asbestos insulation to boilers and steam pipes. His career began in the New England area, where he wore a T-shirt and jeans, applying asbestos paste from 20-pound bags in various facilities and shipyards. After decades in the profession, he concluded his career supervising his crew wearing Hazmat containment suits, removing the same asbestos he had installed forty years earlier. Remarkably, Charles never experienced lung issues, which he credited to his choice to refrain from smoking and his habit of enjoying a cold beer at the end of each workday.
His life-long hobby was working on his Hampstead farm tending his Angus Beef cows, a few pigs, and a family horse.
Charles will be remembered for his wry sense of humor and his ability to find amusement in the everyday occurrences of life. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
