Casiano
Martinez
May 22, 1933 — Oct 20, 2021
Yuma
Our father, Casiano, "Grandpa Chano", or "Don Chano", as his grandkids, in-laws, and friends called him passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at the age of 88. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a man of great faith.
He was preceded in death by our mom, Victoria, with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, his mother Dolores, his father Jesus, his brothers; Benigno, Jose Guadalupe, and Juan; his sisters Maria Dolores, Josefina, and Maria.
He will be greatly missed by all of us his children; Guadalupe, Federico, Ramon, Graciela, Clara, Javier, Martin, and David; his 21 grandkids, 16 great-grandkids; his sister Soledad Ruiz and his brother Jose Martinez; his sons-in-law Jeff Kane and Alfredo Lopez; his daughters-in-law Patricia Granillo, Maria A. Garcia, Consuelo Perez, Laura Muñoz, Myrian Sanchez, Jackie Castro, and Lizbeth Ambriz; many nieces, nephews, and friends too.
He was born on May 22, 1933, in San Diego De Alejandria Jalisco, Mexico. Having lost all their belongings in a flood, his family migrated to northern Mexico, finally settling in San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, Mexico. He went back to his hometown to marry the love of his life, Victoria, came back, and started a family. He was contracted to work In the United States and later was able to immigrate the whole family in search of a better life and future in the United States. We made the city of Somerton our home. He was a farm worker and did crop irrigation for most of his life in several Somerton and Yuma area farms.
Later, we moved out to the county to an acre parcel, which my parents had been paying off. Mom said Dad would need to stay active after fully retiring to keep his joints from stiffening up. And busy he was since then. Mom loved plants. She would have Dad plant them because he was the one with the green thumb and he tended to the many trees and flowering plants that mom got. At 88, he was still mowing his own lawn, doing the necessary trimming, and yard work. He was very proud of the rose bushes that he planted and amazed that even though they were over 20 years old, they would still blossom every year. He saw them, one last time, in full bloom this October, and we cut some roses for mom before he departed.
We will miss him greatly, but we find comfort in knowing that he is now with Mom, whom he loved and missed so much.
